Useful links for HCI publications

ACM Digital Library – this is the main database to search to find publications from the largest and most significant HCI conferences. If accessed on campus you will have access to all full texts. Here you can find the proceedings for (go to ‘publication archive’ tab for year by year proceedings):

ACM Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems (CHI)
ACM Conference on Computer Supported Cooperative Work (CSCW)
ACM Designing Interactive Systems (DIS)
ACM International Joint Conference on Pervasive and Ubiquitous Computing (UbiComp)
ACM Tangible, Embedded and Embodied Interaction (TEI)
Interaction Design and Children (IDC)
Participatory Design Conference (PDC)

There are also many high quality HCI and design journals that you should look through and search within. We have subscriptions to all of these journals – this should be automatic if you are on campus, and you can login using ‘institutional login’ of ‘shibboleth’ off campus using your normal username and password:

ACM Transactions on Computer-Human Interaction (TOCHI)
Human-Computer Interaction (HCI)
International Journal of Human-Computer Studies (IJHCS)
International Journal of Human-Computer Interaction

Useful links for Close and Critical Reading

I sent some of these around before we met for the first session, but here they are again:

A short ‘cheat sheet’ I made with some prompts to help closely and critically read a paper.

A useful guide for critical reading for graduate students from Queen’s University (Kingston, Canada).

Another useful guide that gives advise and steps to taken when conducting a critical analysis or review of a paper from the University of Washington, Tacoma.
