I am a Research Associate working on the Digital Economy Research Centre (DERC) programme. My background is in human geography and local and regional development.
I am working on developing Digital Civics research projects to inform policy and practice particularly at the local level, by working closely with our local council partners on the programme. Currently this involves exploring what ‘relational’ models of service provision could look like and developing ways of doing embedded research in places.
My research interests are in changing forms of governance in the development of cities and regions, in particular exploring new and emergent forms of local decision-making and accountability.
My PhD research in Human Geography at the Centre for Urban and Regional Development Studies (CURDS) examines the changing role of the local state in economic development under decentralisation and devolution in England. It is an Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) funded Collaborative Studentship with Newcastle City Council (submit 2017). At CURDS, I also worked on the first comprehensive audit of all 39 Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEPs) in England.
Prior to this I worked for the Regional Development Agency for the North East in strategy and research roles, developing the Regional Economic Strategy with a wide range of organisations and managing research and impact evaluation projects to inform our work.
