Sean

I have specific research interests in urban/rural planning and public participation in democratic life. Following completion of a master’s in Planning, which included a year’s work placement at Transport for London, I worked as a Planning Officer at Northumberland County Council. This involved shaping planning policies that will guide the location of new developments within Northumberland, informed by feedback from the public on our plans.

My undergraduate dissertation involved researching public attitudes towards 1960s architecture in the North East of England. During this time, I also co-published a book chapter that explores how poor access to transport and social disadvantage can interact to create transport poverty. More recently, I helped to design a toolkit that would promote participation of young people in the planning process. I am hoping to further the latter research during my time as a digital civics researcher by exploring how young people can be better empowered through technology to be actively involved in democratic life.
