Tess Denman-Cleaver

Tess Denman-Cleaver is a performance maker, theatre director and practice-based researcher.

Her PhD research concerns the intersection of performance, philosophy and landscape studies. It is being carried out through a series of performance making projects that consider conceptions of landscape, and explore human relationships with the North Sea coastline.

Tess' performance and research practice is conducted through longitudinal participatory processes. Her projects invite collaborators and audiences to engage with dialogues around philosophical and political issues which effect everyday life.

Her research aims to generate new understandings of landscape through performance making, and develop ways of making performance in specific places.

Tess is the the artistic director of Tender Buttons, an independent theatre and performance company. Her academic background is in literature and philosophy.

Her PhD is part of the Creative Exchange Project.
