Matthew Wood | Doctoral Trainee

Matthew Wood

I am a PhD student in Digital Civics, based in Open Lab, Newcastle University. My PhD is around the user-centred design of technology to support a broad agenda of sexual health in young people, which not only seek to reduce risky behaviour, but also support positive and pleasurable relationships and experiences. I am part of the digital public health research theme, and am registered in the Institute of Health and Society under the supervision of Eileen Kaner and Madeline Balaam. My background is in Psychology and Health Psychology, which I approach from a critical and social perspective.

My research interests are broadly across human sexuality and public health, and how these intercept with digital technology. I also have strong interests and commitments to qualitative research methods - in particular thematic analysis, innovative data collection and visual methods.
