My research interests relate to music and education. Currently I am leading a project which aims to increase young people's participation in music making activities within their local area, and to facilitate this a web browser-based music mixing tool is in development which will be used to connect young people with established music makers from their locality. Previous projects include the building of a computer simulation of a recording studio to help students learn stereo microphone techniques; I created opportunities for interaction with audio within the lecture environment facilitated by nintendo wiimotes; and I created of a novel surround sound mixing system. I also have experience in the health sphere having developed a game based system to help people perform upper limb physiotherapy tasks following a stroke.
Prior to joining the Open Lab as a researcher I spent seven years lecturing in Music and Audio Engineering at FE and HE levels at Perth College, University of the Highlands and Islands, and Glasgow Caledonian University.
