Ian Kenny

Ian is a PhD researcher in Open Lab at Newcastle University. He holds an MSc in Advanced Computer Science from Northumbria University and a BSc in Earth Science.

Before his PhD, he worked in data analysis roles at a major energy company, translating complex data into clear reports for senior management. He has also taught English and science in Asia, worked in the UK civil service, and volunteered on marine conservation scuba diving projects in Indonesia.

His research explores how coastal communities can prepare for storms and high tides on their own terms. He is interested in whether AI tools could help, but only if communities actually want them
