My current research is focused on helping people to take more control over what will happen to their digital life and data privacy after they have died. Although I am interested in all elements of digital legacy, the main aim of my PhD work is to overcome the barriers that prevent individuals from sharing intentions and making practical plans for their digital estate.
This involves:
- raising awareness of the growing need and value of making digital legacy plans
- developing techniques for individuals to identify the files, accounts and assets that they see value in planning for
- guiding citizens through the logistical, technological and legal issues they may face in creating a digital legacy plan
I come from a mixed academic background of psychology, music and computing. Alongside my studies I have also worked in risk management in an NHS trust and as part of the fundraising team for a local hospice.
