Ruan Yang
Doctoral Trainee
Combining my background in communication studies with industry experience in media, my doctoral research focuses on the issue of rumour dissemination, particularly the debunking behaviours of online community members on social media.
I obtained my bachelor’s degree from the Communication University of Zhejiang. After serving as a journalist and TV news anchor at a municipal television station in China for six years, I went to the Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore to pursue my master’s degree. After graduation, I worked as a lecturer at a university in China. These experiences have inspired my strong research interest in disinformation, especially in the field of HCI. My research aims to help the younger generation actively utilise science and technology to build good media literacy in today’s complex media environment.
I am very excited to start my doctoral research at Open Lab and hope to explore more possibilities alongside researchers from diverse academic backgrounds.
