Sami Abosaleh
Doctoral Trainee
I am an engineer by background and a tech nerd at heart. Currently, in my PhD, I aim to explore the social aspects of emerging Virtual and Mixed Reality technology in the context of collaboration, activism and community driven initiatives. During my studies in Electrical and Computer Engineering I oriented my studies towards computer graphics, electronics and Human-Computer Interaction.
The semester I had the opportunity to spend in Brazil as an Erasmus Mundus fellowship, let me deepen my knowledge on game design and illustration. My MRes in Digital Civics complemented the experience I had gained in solidarity practices as an Arabic Interpreter in various NGOs in Greece and as a member of a Makerspace (‘Mikri Polis’ FabLab) aimed at supporting the refugee community and marginalised groups by providing me, amongst others, the chance, to learn about participatory and commons based practices, as well as, the way that tools can be utilised in research and design based on those ideals.
I am also a big ‘Hip-Hop head’ interested in the underground and DIY music scene, a Gaming, VR and 3D Printing enthusiast and a keen traveller.
