Sonu Fakiha
Doctoral Trainee
I am a writer, designer, and PhD researcher at Open Lab. In my PhD project, I explore how multi-sensory media designs for children can shape their health and wellbeing. Specifically, I study how sound media, like 8D audio and ASMR (Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response), and tangible media may be utilised by designers to promote concentration, relaxation, and the wellbeing of children including neuro-divergent children. This PhD is in partnership with Coram Life Education, a UK charity provider of personal, social, health and economic (PSHE) education.
With my academic background in Psychology, Literature, and Media Studies, and experience in Design, I have strong interests in understanding digital media design and its effects on children. My interest in interdisciplinary research gained momentum during my master’s programme, which allowed me to move beyond conventional literature topics where I explored themes of trauma in pop music and media.
Before embarking on this research journey, I worked as a content designer for different tech companies (mostly start-ups) and have published a couple of short stories and articles as a writer in local Indian magazines - you can read some of them on www.toastandbroccoli.art.blog.
