Interviewing Euijin

I interviewed Euijin, and he told me that he is interested in Tangible User Interfaces (TUI) to support children’s learnings and provide playful environment for them. Besides, children could touch and interact with real objects and media display, and they could also join in collaborative learning environments by sharing screen, share experiences depended on their level of ability.

Euijin thinks that participatory design is the most challenging field of Human Computer Interaction (HCI), because he is confused on how participatory design is carried out, how could we engage users in designing for them, and how are we going to evaluate the participatory design.

He is interested in facilitating children with Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) symptom, because he thinks that these individuals are not cared enough by parents and teachers as they should be in his country, and it is required to assist such children in playing and learning.

I found two papers from ACM Digital Library because of his interest:

1. Extending Attention Span of ADHD Children through an Eye Tracker Directed Adaptive User Interface  (http://dl.acm.org/citation.cfm?id=2824997)

2. TangiPlan: Designing an Assistive Technology to Enhance Executive Functioning Among Children with ADHD (http://dl.acm.org/citation.cfm id=2593968.2610475&coll=DL&dl=ACM&CFID=561369491&CFTOKEN=51624511)

He likes to find out more about Tangible User Interfaces in the rest of the module in order to make people more using tangible objects in real life. In additions he is eager to learn about internet of things on how every object and devices can be connected through internet.

I would recommend him meeting Karen Snowdon who is a volunteer supporting families having ADHD children in Newcastle, so he could find some advices in designing tools that are required to be considered for these children.
